Ruby Wax Teases Absolutely Fabulous Reunion: 'I'm Very Specialised'
Ruby Wax, the beloved comedian and script editor of the iconic BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, has hinted at a potential reunion with her close friend and collaborator, Jennifer Saunders. The two have been working together for over 40 years, and Wax recently expressed her desire to embark on a new project with Saunders.
In an interview with HELLO!, Wax revealed that she would only consider writing another TV show if it involved Saunders. She stated, 'Well, only for Jennifer Saunders. I’m very specialised.' This comment suggests a strong bond and a shared vision for their future endeavors.
Wax, who is 72, also discussed her career trajectory and her reluctance to retire. She confessed, 'No, never. I wouldn’t know what to do' when contemplating a career end. Despite her age, Wax remains curious about her next career move, exploring various interests.
She mentioned her enjoyment of teaching meditation and neuroscience, finding these activities calming and intellectually stimulating. However, Wax expressed uncertainty about returning to television, stating, 'I wouldn’t know what to do. I’d probably do an interesting documentary, but I don’t see anything that really does it for me.'
The possibility of Wax turning to YouTube or podcasting has been discussed, inspired by Amelia Dimoldenberg's work. Absolutely Fabulous first aired in 1992 and concluded in 2004, with three 20th anniversary specials airing in 2012 and a feature film, Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, released in 2016, much to the delight of fans.
