Bode Opens First Asian Store in Tokyo’s Yoyogi-Uehara: A Fashion Lover's Dream! (2026)

Bode's Tokyo Store: A Bold Move to Capture the Asian Market

The fashion world is abuzz with Bode's latest venture! This renowned brand is making waves by opening its first-ever store in Asia, specifically in Tokyo's trendy Yoyogi-Uehara neighborhood. But here's the twist: Bode is doing it on their own terms, without the typical wholesale partnerships prevalent in the region.

A Strategic Expansion:
Bode, a New York-based fashion house, has already established a strong presence in the Asia-Pacific market, with its collections adorning the shelves of 20 high-end stores across the region, including eight in Japan. However, the Tokyo store marks a significant milestone as the company's first self-owned and operated venture in Asia.

Emily Adams Bode Aujla, the visionary founder and designer, revealed her motivation: "We wanted to do it on our own. We love retail, and with our passion, we knew we could make it work." This move showcases Bode's confidence in their brand and retail expertise, setting them apart from the conventional Asian market approach.

A Global Retail Presence:
The Tokyo store becomes the fifth physical location for Bode, joining two in New York, one in Los Angeles, and one in Paris. Despite the distance from their headquarters, Bode Aujla remains unfazed, emphasizing the strength of their local team and the experience gained from opening the Paris store.

A Unique Store Design:
Located on the ground floor of a residential apartment building, the 2,150-square-foot Tokyo store exudes a distinct character. Designed by Green River Project LLC (GRPLLC), co-founded by Bode Aujla's husband, the store draws inspiration from Czech-American architect Antonin Raymond's iconic Tokyo buildings.

The interior is a masterpiece, featuring a reproduction of a painting from the John F. Kennedy Oval Office by Matt Kenny, an Egyptian landscape by Kurt Beers, and Iranian brass vases with dried hydrangeas. The custom wool carpeting and reclaimed wood doors with green glass windows add to the store's charm, creating a unique shopping experience.

Exclusive Offerings and Surprises:
The Tokyo store will offer the complete Bode men's and women's collections, along with exclusive, one-of-a-kind pieces crafted from vintage textiles. Customers can expect unique items like bras and pillows made from mid-century National Parks souvenir pillowcases and appliquéd T-shirts, catering to the demand for Bode souvenirs.

Bode Aujla's insight into customer preferences has been eye-opening. She noted that Los Angeles customers favored welding and fringe jackets, contrary to her initial expectations. Tokyo may hold similar surprises, and Bode is eager to learn and adapt to local tastes.

Looking Ahead:
Bode Aujla's ambition doesn't stop in Tokyo. She plans to expand further in Asia and Europe, scouting locations in Kyoto, Seoul, and London. The U.S. market is also on her radar, with potential future stores in Miami, Texas, and the Hamptons.

And here's a bold statement: "Opening stores is more important than runway shows." With some wholesale accounts facing financial challenges, Bode's focus on direct-to-consumer channels and brick-and-mortar stores seems like a strategic move, ensuring a unique and immersive brand experience for customers.
